Description

Hello, everybody! My name is Denis Spedalieri and I'll be your tour guide (Or “Guida Inutile New York”. Yes, “Inutile” is Italian for “Useless”. 'Useless Guide' is a playful and ironic nod to the unconventional approach I often take to exploring the city I call home). Meet me at 250 Broadway (CITY HALL Subway Station, R/W lines). Our exploration begins at the CIVIC CENTER, home to iconic landmarks such as: City Hall, the Municipal Building, the Tweed Courthouse, the Woolworth Building, Park Row, the original New York Times Building, St. Paul's Chapel and the New York County Supreme Court. We'll admire the stunning architecture and learn about the significant role this area has played in shaping New York City's history. Next, we'll delve into the vibrant and bustling world of CHINATOWN, where the sights, sounds, and aromas of traditional Chinese culture will transport you to a different world. We'll explore the colorful markets, admire historic temples and notable buildings that reflect the community’s rich history: Mahayana Temple, Transfiguration Church, the On Leong Chinese Merchant’s Association Building, the Eastbank Building, and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association Building. Sampling of delicious Chinese cuisine, like dumplings and bao buns will be optional. From Chinatown, we'll wander through the charming streets of LITTLE ITALY, a neighborhood steeped in Italian tradition. We’ll learn about the Italian immigrant experience in New York City, admire beautiful churches, historic buildings and iconic spots: Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood, Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, the Old Police Headquarters, Umberto's Clam House, and Lombardi's Pizzeria. Delicious Italian pastries and gelato will be optional. For our final destination we'll venture into the stylish streets of SOHO, a neighborhood renowned for its cast-iron architecture; a testament to the area's industrial past, and trendy boutiques. We'll stroll through the district, learning about the neighborhood's history as a bohemian enclave, admiring its iconic buildings: Haughwout Building, the “Queen of Greene Street”, the “King of Greene Street”, Little Singer Building, Silk Exchange Building, and the Gunther Building. This will be a private walking tour. As your personal guide, I'm committed to tailoring this tour to your specific interests and pace. We can spend more or less time in each neighborhood, depending on your preferences. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or simply looking for a leisurely stroll, I'll ensure you have a truly unforgettable experience.
